International Summer Course 2025 Opens: Strengthening Sustainable Tropical Livestock Systems
Bogor, 28 July 2025 – The Department of Animal Production Technology (APT), Faculty of Animal Science, IPB University, together with the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), and the Faculty of Agriculture, University Putra Malaysia (UPM), officially launched the International Summer Course 2025. Carrying the theme “Towards Resilience and Sustainable Tropical Livestock Systems with Precision Technologies and Global University Collaboration,” this program aims to build a strong network of future experts in tropical livestock production.
Running from 28 July to 1 August 2025, the Summer Course has successfully attracted 298 participants from 62 institutions in 12 countries, including Indonesia, Pakistan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, China, Nigeria, Russia, Vietnam, Nepal, Egypt, and Denmark.
On the first day, the program opened with a welcoming ceremony followed by a series of lectures featuring international experts:
- Dr. Maria Ulfah (IPB University, Indonesia) discussed “History, Utilization, and Conservation of Hobby Livestock,” highlighting conservation strategies and the economic potential of hobby animals.
- Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ulas Cinar (Erciyes University, Turkey) presented “Genetic Improvement on Growth and Health Traits in Sheep,” showcasing advanced breeding and genetic technologies.
- Prof. Fujiyama Kazuhito (Osaka University, Japan) delivered insights on “Recombinant Protein Production in Silkworms,” demonstrating biotechnological innovations with potential applications in animal health and nutrition.
Dr. Cahyo Budiman, one of the session moderators, emphasized that this collaborative summer course serves as a learning bridge across countries:
“With participants from various regions, this program encourages knowledge-sharing and joint problem-solving to achieve sustainable livestock systems in tropical environments.”
Throughout the week, participants will join interactive workshops, panel discussions, and collaborative projects focusing on precision livestock technologies, sustainable feeding, climate-smart breeding, and digital solutions for improving animal health and productivity.
This initiative reflects the commitment of IPB University and its partners to foster global collaboration, preparing young professionals and researchers to face future challenges in sustainable animal production.
