Department of Animal Production and Technology

Department of Animal Production and Technology (DAPT), formerly known as Department of Animal Production (DAP), was launched at the same time of the establishment of Bogor Agricultural University (Institut Pertanian Bogor, IPB) on September 1, 1963. The decree from Minister of Science and Higher Education (PTIP) No. 92/1963 and President of the Republic of Indonesia (based on decree No. 279/1965) formally legalized the establishment of DAPT. In 2003, Department of Animal Production was transformed into Department of Animal Production and Technology according to the Decree of Rector No 120/K13/OT/2003. Until 1994, this department, as one of departments in Faculty of Animal Science, IPB, was located in IPB Gunung Gede Campus (Pajajaran Street, Bogor). Starting from 1995, Faculty of Animal Science had a new campus building in Dramaga, Bogor. Buildings and facilities consist of main educational support such as lecture rooms, field practice  areas, laboratories, office equipments, and scholarships for lecturers and technicians.

Until 1993, the Faculty of Animal Science only run one study program, however, it was expanded into 4 (four) study programs in 1994. Two of these programs were under DAPT, namely Study Program of Animal Production Technology (PS-TPT) and Study Program of Animal Product Technology (PS-THT) that were formally legalized by the decree of Education and Culture Minister of the Republic of Indonesia No: 0311/U/1994. PS-THT is emphasized on animal product processing for micro and medium scale industry as well as for animal product-based food industry. Through the establishment of PS-THT, the Faculty of Animal Science hopes to produce professional graduates in handling and processing of primary animal products, animal by-products, animal wastes, and capable in managing environment-friendly animal farming.

Concerning the changes of IPB to Perguruan Tinggi Badan Hukum Milik Negara (PT-BHMN), the Department of Animal Production was transformed into Department of Animal Production and Technology (DAPT) following the reformation in IPB that is formally legalized by the decree of Rector of IPB No. 001/K13/PP/2005 regarding to Department Restructurization in IPB. According to this, the former study programs (PS-TPT and PS-THT) have to be reunified. As a consequence, to accommodate these former study programs, the department arranges and establishes a new curriculum that combines all aspects to produce graduates with complete skill and competency.

The old study program curriculum then changed to Major-Minor System with Animal Production and Technology Major. Since 2006, Major-Minor curriculum was implemented, however, Department still has students with old curriculum. At that time, department implements two curriculum systems: old and Major-Minor Curriculums. The students within old curriculum have to pass in 2009 at the latest ; meanwhile the Major-Minor Curriculum has already graduated some students. To improve the educational quality, DAPT is trusted to manage various educational quality improvement programs conducted by DIKTI, such as: Spring Program Quality for Undergraduate Education (QUE Spring) in 1999; SP4 Program for Procurement of Equipment in 2004; Competence Grants A2 (FLE-A2) in 2005 until 2007 and Institutional Competence Grant Program (ICGP) in 2008 to 2010. Since 1998, DAPT was accredited A grade for Study Program of Animal Production Technology and B grade for Study Program of Animal Product Technology by the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education (BAN-PT) based on the decree of BAN-PT No. 00509/Ak-I.1/IPBLMT/VIII/1998 and BAN-PT No. 00506/Ak-I.1/IPBCYT/VIII/1998. Based on the decree of BAN-PT No. 211/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/X?2013, Major of Animal Production Technology accredited as A grade, from 19 October 2013 until 19 October 2018.
